Leah Cleveland deeply loves and cares for Texas A&M University-Commerce. Being born in Commerce and raised nearby, she attended the university, received her bachelor’s in English, and worked in the Division of Philanthropy and Engagement temporarily as a student. Years later, when she and her family decided to return to Commerce, she applied for a position in the same office she had worked in all those years earlier as a student and was hired. Leah is thrilled to be back at the place she loves so much. In fact, the university campus is her favorite spot in town because, as Leah explains, “I spent the best time with my best friends here!”

A Conversation with Leah

What do you like most about your current role?

My team! The willingness to help and collaborate is unique and makes the transition to a new position so much more enjoyable.

How do you help students in your current role?

I help students by thanking and nurturing the relationship with the donors who enable students to have scholarships. If donors feel appreciated, they are likely to donate more, thus helping more students!

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?

This university is unique because of this town. The community loves this college and its students! Everyone is warm and friendly. Class sizes are small, so your professors will know you. I am a part of five generations of Lions and I am so proud and grateful for my university!

What is an important life lesson you have learned?

Never think you do not have value. Everyone can contribute something!

Who has been a role model for you?

My dad. He’s successful but fun, adventurous but protective, smart and hilarious. You can’t beat that!
